It reminded me of taking math in school, where I could see where they were going, and just wanted them to hurry up and get there.Much of this is literally elementary so it wasn't as fascinating as Measurement.

I did enjoy it more than A Mathematician's Lament because 1) it was about math and 2) it wasn't so unnecessarily negative.A good book that gives a bit of a historical perspective to the evolution of counting and clearly indicated the shortcomings of the earlier counting systemsNever read a book written with more passion for the subject!The author explains Arithmetic and how it came to existence and how it evolved in a very easy to understand way. carrying and borrowing).This nice little book is another of those enlightning works by Paul Lockhart that are written for the general public but are well deserving a readership as wide as possible.
