Different types of healthy and pathological movement patterns may be examined such as balance and locomotion with special emphasis on their development, control, and learning. Biomechanists work in collecting and analyzing biological and movement-related data, examine the efficacy of drugs that affect movement, and generate biotechnologies that improve functionality and monitor mobility. Course work in biomechanics, statistics, research methods, and motor control form the basis of the formal training, with students also expected to complete a research project summarized in a thesis.
